Product Description

Rickenbacker 425 Fireglo For Sale

In the fall of 1963, for two weeks in September George Harrison and his brother Peter visited their sister Louise in Benton, Illinois. During this visit George purchased his first Fireglo (red) solid body "cresting wave" single pickup Rickenbacker 425 from Fenton Music Store located at 601 South 10th Street, Mt. Vernon, Illinois. George paid about $400 cash. Lester "Red" Fenton operated this music store at the time of the sale. Serial# BH 439 made in August 1962, was shipped from the factory in the Fireglo finish. this instrument was shipped in error, as a Model 425 even thought it was a Model 420, having no vibrato. Just after his return to England Harrison performed with his new 425 during The Beatles' first appearance on the "Ready Steady Go" television show. The guitar was no longer in the Fireglo finish. It had been refinished to black. Later he added a second pickup.

This guitar was made in August 1965. Scratches, nicks, Dents...sure there is... after all, it is a 49 year old guitar with lots of playing time. Plays and sounds great. The only upgrade to the guitar is the German made Schaller Tuners. All you have to do is paint it black and add a second pickup.
