Product Description

Fender Telecaster Rosewood Custom Shop George Harrison of the Beatles For Sale

In 2007, a Fender Rosewood Telecaster was produced by the Fender Custom Shop, but it wasn’t the first Tele to feature the beautiful natural grain of rosewood.

In fact, the original rosewood Telecaster was offered in the late 1960s -- and found its way into some very famous hands.

Fender gave one to George Harrison in 1969, who used it on the last Beatles album, “Let It Be” -- and in the film of that name for the concert on the Apple Records rooftop.

Harrison then gave his to Delaney Bramlett, who also used it publicly.

While rosewood has long been used for fingerboards, its amazingly detailed grain doesn’t really show up very well until you get a big slab of it like it takes to make a Tele.

For both the original and the 2007 Custom Shop reissue, the front and back of the body were rosewood.

A thin sheet of maple was sandwiched between the two.

The neck was, of course, rosewood also.

The original Fender Rosewood Tele was produced from 1969 to 1972, but 2007 wasn’t the first time it came back in a reissue model.

If you’re lucky -- and willing to put out the big bucks -- you can find a used or collectible original or reissue Rosewood Telecaster on eBay.

Be warned that prices for these models are very high. The 2007 reissue listed for $6,000 when it was available new from Fender.

The 2007 model came equipped to match its price tag, however.

The rosewood body is covered with a thin-skin closet classic finish, and a satin finish takes over on the 21-fret neck.

There’s no skunk stripe or plug.

It features a ‘63 Fender decal, vintage-style hardware, a three-ply black pickguard, two Custom Shop Tele pickups and modern wiring.

A limited edition hardshell case is included in the steep price -- and a very visible limited edition neck plate is there, too.

A certificate of authenticity is also included.

Even though the price of a Fender Rosewood Tele is beyond the reach of many players, there are plenty of reasons to want one -- if you can find one, that is.

Whether it’s the beauty of the highly-grained wood, the uniqueness of the instrument in general or its Beatles-related heritage that attracts you, the Fender Rosewood Tele is the kind of instrument that has many players drooling -- and a few lucky buyers gloating.
